David Casey, MD

David Casey is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Total Joint Replacement and Adult Reconstructive Surgery. His area of expertise includes both primary and revision surgical procedures of the hip and knee. He utilizes new surgical techniques including less invasive and minimally invasive muscle sparing surgical procedures, robotic joint replacements, and computer navigation when indicated.

Dr. Casey grew up in Brookline, Massachusetts. The only son of a fireman and an Irish immigrant housekeeper, Dr. Casey attended the Belmont Hill School from the 7th through the 12th grade. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Hamilton College in 1992. During his years at Hamilton Dr. Casey was greatly influenced by his work with biologist David Gapp, Ph.D, rheumatologist Martha Skinner, M.D., orthopaedist William Southmayd, M.D., and orthopaedist Timothy Foster, M.D. Dr. Casey received a Health Professions Scholarship with the U.S. Army to attend Boston University School of Medicine, and earned his medical degree in 1996.

Dr. Casey completed his Internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1997 and his Residency in the Boston University Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in 2001, under the guidance of world renowned orthopedists Paul Tornetta, M.D., William Healy, M.D., and Thomas Einhorn, M.D.

After residency, Dr. Casey was assigned to Womack Army Medical Center, in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, home of Special Forces, the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, and one of the busiest Orthopedic Services in the Army. Dr. Casey deployed with the 48th Combat Support Hospital to Bagram, Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom in 2002. He provided Orthopaedic care in Landstuhl, Germany in 2003. He served with the Joint Special Operations Task Force in Iraq in 2004. He returned to Afghanistan with the Joint Special Operations Task Force in 2005.

Dr. Casey’s decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He has also been awarded the Combat Medical Badge.

After he fulfilled his military commitment, Dr. Casey completed a Fellowship in Adult Reconstruction, Arthritis, and Joint Replacement Surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City. HSS has consistently been voted the #1 rated Orthopaedic Hospital in the nation according to US News and World Report. “For 150 years, HSS has trained the minds, hearts, and hands of some of the finest orthopaedic surgeons in the nation.” While at HSS, Dr. Casey trained under several world renowned orthopaedic surgeons, including Thomas Sculco, M.D., Eduardo Salvati, M.D., Mathias Bostrom, M.D., Douglas Padgett, M.D., Paul Pellicci, M.D., and Steven Haas, M.D.

Dr. Casey is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction (ICJR), and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA). He is a lifetime member of the Boston University Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society.

David Casey M.D. is a partner at Pinehurst Surgical in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He sees patients at his offices in Pinehurst, Rockingham, and Troy, NC. He operates at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, the Surgery Center of Pinehurst, and at First Health Richmond Orthopaedics in Rockingham. Dr. Casey enjoys spending his free time with his wife and their three sons, especially skiing, visiting the shore and weight training as a family in their home garage gym. He also plays ice hockey and golf with friends, and travels with his local ice hockey team to compete in yearly pond hockey tournaments.
